ust as there are questions about Christian martial arts, there are even more about Christianity itself. Even after the abundance of information became available on the Internet, quite a few still have a variety of questions, questions such as:
What is Christianity?
Why are there so many Christian denominations?
What makes a Christian truly a Christian?
Who is Jesus, did He even exist, and is He really the Son of God?
Why are Christian messages so different?
With so many messages about God and Jesus, is it really any wonder why confusion is so rampant nowadays as to why there are so many "Christian" messages being in conflict with each other?
For example, some believe that you are born into salvation solely because you belong to a specific denomination or following, even though the Bible says that you must consciously make the decision yourself to accept God's free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Being born into a specific denomination or following is not the way to salvation. Only by being born again in the spirit of Jesus are we saved (Matthew 3:1-10; John 5:39, 40; 1 John 3:4; 1 John 5:11,12; 1 Peter 1:23).
Others believe that "good works" will earn your salvation, even though the Bible says that Jesus' sacrifice was fully sufficient and that nothing under heaven or earth that you do yourself that will be worthy of God's forgiveness. It is only through accepting God's free gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, that will ever be good enough for God.
The Bible says that justification is not by works (Romans 3:20,28; Romans 4:5, Ephesians 2:8,9) because our righteous deeds are filthy rags before God (Isaiah 64:6). We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and we cannot "earn" it (Ephesians 2:1-10).
But that is not all. Many have taken God's Word and radically altered it so that the message He gave us is completely different from the original Scriptures (even though this is in direct violation of Revelations 22:18,19).
Further still, you have celebrities known world-wide who make a global impact with their own brand of theology and making unbelievable claims that directly contradicts the Word of God. These same celebrities then entice others to follow them because of their "warm" presence of what they used to be known for.
Sadly, these celebrities lead countless thousands, if not millions, away from God's truth by creating God in their image. See for yourself.
Many will hear God's true message and still ignore it. Just like you saw in the above video, pride, ego, and sin will keep them believing His Word. Rather than God making man in His image, untold millions have made God in man's image, creating their own belief system in the process and taking themselves away from Him for all eternity.
It is my hope that this discussion of Christianity will help to answer some of the questions that many of you have regarding Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and answer what Christianity really is and is not.
You cannot say 'No, Lord,' and mean both words. One annuls the other. If you say 'no' to Him, then He is not your Lord. - D. James Kennedy
What is the actual message of Jesus Christ, and why do Christians have such strong faith in Him? Where does it all come from, and why are there so many different messages about Him?
You will hear a variety of descriptions about Christianity, so before we begin, let us first examine the term itself to see where it comes from.
Main entry: Chris-tian-i-ty Pronunciation: \,kris-chē-'a-ne-tē, ,krish-, -cha-ne-, ,kris-tē-'a-\ Function: noun Date: 14th century
The religion derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies.
Conformity to the Christian religion.
The practice of Christianity.
The term Christianity is used to denote the teachings of Jesus Christ as related by Scripture and translated to what is known as the Holy Bible. The message of Jesus Christ was recorded by His apostles, or "disciples," from the time of His birth, through His ministry, and until His death and resurrection.
These records are known as Scripture, which is from Middle English and Latin meaning "the act or product of writing, from scriptus." And it is Scripture to which we have God's Word, the Holy Bible.
The Bible contains 66 books and is divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books written from approximately 1400 B.C. to 400 B.C. and describes mankind's creation, fall from the grace of God, and God's plan to introduce salvation. The New Testament contains 27 books, was written from approximately 50 A.D. to 90 A.D., and tells us of God's plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. It also tells us of what is to come at the end of times.
Comprised of Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, the Bible has been translated to more than 1,200 languages and is the most widely-read and widely-purchased book in mankind's history.
Many will claim that the Bible is wrought with holes or inconsistencies, as well as it being inaccurately translated (which is why you see a variety of religions that have sprung up based on their "fresh revelation" such as the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons). However, these claims have always been shown to be misleading and false, coming from false converts, false teachings, and false beliefs.
Linguistic scholars from all over the world have translated the ancient Scriptures multiple times, and they always come to the same conclusion:
The Bible today is an accurate translation from the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic documents. Those that claim otherwise are incorrect and/or intentionally misleading you into a false belief.
Further, those that claim inaccuracies of the Bible do not possess the linguistic skills necessary to read the original manuscripts. Therefore, they cannot make a valid claim since they cannot read what is written. Those that do possess the linguistic skills necessary are in agreement as to what the Bible says and its accuracy in translation.
And now that we have a foundation to start with, let's look at the message itself.
According to the Bible, Christianity is not a religion "about" Jesus; instead, it is a relationship with Him. And the Bible tells us very plainly who He is, what He said, and what His message is:
Jesus claimed to be God in human form. He did not say that He was "like" a god (taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses and shown in their New World Translation, John 1:1), nor did He say that you can "become" a god (taught by the Mormons and shown in their Mormon Doctrine). Instead, He said that He IS God (John 10:30). His enemies understood exactly what He was saying, which is why they tried to kill Him (John 5:18).
To proclaim that "Jesus is God" is the foundation of Christianity itself, and without that belief, it is not Christian, no matter how someone tries to explain it otherwise.
Jesus arose from the dead in the same body that He died in, He is alive today, and He has defeated death for the redemption of all mankind. After His death and resurrection, Jesus showed His disciples the same body that He died in, including the wounds to His hands and feet as a result of being nailed to the cross (John 21: 24-29).
Jesus' defeat of death was clearly understood when the apostle Paul wrote:
And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation for your sins. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ have perished! And if we have hope in Christ only for this life, we are the most miserable people in the world. - 1 Corinthians 15:17-19
You will hear a variety of descriptions for what some believe Christianity to mean, but you must be careful. Not all of them actually teach Biblical Christianity. Many will make it "sound" Christian by using the same terminology, and even making it sound like they "do" believe what the Bible teaches.
Even a brief look at these teachings, however, will show a very different theology, which is the opposite to what the Bible actually teaches.
Jehovah's Witnesses
The Watchtower and Bible Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) asserts itself as being the sole Christian religion and authority on the earth today - as well as God's prophet - even though this organization does not teach Jesus' message.
The Watchtower and Bible Tract Society teaches that:
Jesus on earth was really Michael the archangel.
What the Bible says:
Jesus created the angels (Colossians 1:16), no angel can be called God's Son (Hebrews 1:5) and no angel can rule the world (Hebrews 2:5).
For a Jehovah's Witness to come to the conclusion that Jesus is Michael the archangel, they must use a complicated "Awake" magazine to explain it, rather than simply reading the Bible for themselves. Even in that, the Bible directly refutes it in that no angle of God will accept worship and that no angel can rule the world.
The Bible says that angels were created by Christ (Colossians 1:16), they carry out the will of God (Psalm 103:20; Matthew 6:10), they worship God and Christ (Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 12:22), they are wise (2 Samuel 14:20), they are mighty (Psalm 103:20), they are innumberable (Hebrews 12:22), and they are holy (Matthew 25:31).
However, they are not to be worshipped (Colossians 2:18; Revelations 19:10; Revelations 22:9).
Jesus was the "firstborn of all creation" and was "created" billions of years ago.
What the Bible says:
Jesus is the Creator (Isaiah 44:24, Colossians 1:16).
"Firstborn" as used in the Greek does not mean literal birth or "created" first; instead, it means "preeminent" over all creation.
The Holy Spirit is not God and there is no such thing as the Trinity.
What the Bible says:
While the word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible, it is quite clear that the concept is fully explained.
The Holy Spirit is fully God. He is called God (Acts 5:3,4) and He has all of the attributes of God, including omnipresence (Psalm 139:7), omniscience (1 Corinthians 2:10), and omnipotence (Romans 15:19). These terms would be considered blasphemy if applied to anyone other than God, yet they are described as being the Holy Spirit (as well as Jesus).
If the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society is God's prophet, why do they not acknowledge God's Word, which tells us very plainly that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are God?
You do not have an immortal soul, distinct from your physical body.
What the Bible says:
When a Christian dies, Phillippians 1:21-23 and 2 Corinthians 5:8 tells us that their soul goes to be in the presence of God, while Luke 16:19-31 tells us that non-Christians go to a place of great suffering.
The Bible tells us that we do have an immortal soul, which is distinct from your physical body.
The New World Translation is the most accurate translation from ancient Scripture.
In reality:
It has been said that "truth and the Bible will stand on its own," and that is certainly the case here, for although some believe that the New World Translation is the most accurate of all translations from ancient Scripture, even a brief look at what legitimate scholars have to say about it demonstrates the reverse.
In reality, the New World Translation has been amply shown to be one of the most incorrect and intentionally misleading "translations" of ancient Scripture in existence. Rather than a literal word-for-word or phrase-by-phrase translation as the Watchtower Society claims, a great deal of this text has been changed to fit their own brand of theology so that it coincides with what they teach. They can "claim" differently all they want, but the facts are the facts, as demonstrated repeatedly by those that actually know these languages.
There are many references to illustrate this, this, but some of them include:
Note: The statements made on these sites are solely from those particular individuals. While I do agree with their position, I do not necessarily agree with how some of them have "worded" their positions.
Rather than anger or frustration-filled comments, I believe the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in that only through love can we guide our brothers and sisters to the truth. The New World Translation "is" a corrupt paraphrase, and that is fact. In that, however, we should not belittle those who are living in darkness.
Only Jehovah's Witnesses will go to heaven, and of them, only 144,000. These are the "Anointed Class." The remaining Jehovah's Witnesses are God's "other sheep" and will live forever on a paradise earth.
What the Bible says:
Matthew 9:35-38, Mark 1:14, 15 and Luke 12:22-32 tells us otherwise. This is a clear example of where non-Christian teachings attempt to alter God's true message of the Bible.
Jesus taught that all people should seek the kingdom of God, and that whoever sought it would find it. His Kingdom is not limited to a specific number; instead, His Kingdom is for everyone who accepts Jesus' free gift of salvation.
As for the "other sheep," John 10:16 tells us that all believers will be together in "one flock" under "one shepherd" in heaven.
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Like the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) proclaim to be "God's voice" on earth, even though their teachings are contrary to the Bible.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints teaches that:
Jesus is the spirit-brother of Lucifer, as stated in Mormon Doctrine, page 163.
What the Bible says:
The entire angelic realm was created by Jesus (Colossians 1:16). Lucifer is a created angelic being (Ezekiel 28:13-19; Isaiah 14:12-15), and since Jesus created all of the angels, He cannot be the spirit-brother of His creation.
Jesus taught that man's basic problem is ignorance of his divinity.
What the Bible says:
Human beings are evil (Matthew 12:34; Luke 11:13) and man is utterly lost, as well as being a sinner (Luke 15:10)]. Only in repentance before a holy God (Mark 1:15) can he be born again (John 3:3,5,7).
Belief in baptism of the dead, as stated in Doctrines of Salvation, Volume 2, page 141.
What the Bible says:
When a person dies, they either join God in His presence (Philippians 1:21-23; 2 Corinthians 5:8) or they go to a place of great suffering (Luke 16:19-31). Praying for one's salvation after they have died is too late; they either accepted Jesus' gift of salvation, or they did not.
When a person dies, the decision they made here and now is the difference, not someone praying on their behalf. Their choice is an eternal one, and the Bible clearly tells us that no amount of prayer by someone else will change that.
God used to be a man, and now resides on another planet near a star called Kolob, as stated in Mormon Doctrine, page 321, and the Pearl of Great Price, pages 34 and 35.
What the Bible says:
God has always been God (Psalm 90:2). God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one God, not individual gods that some believe in.
Some Mormons have openly stated that they do not believe that, yet this is what their prophet, Joseph Smith, wrote about. How does a Mormon state that they are a Mormon, yet discount what their prophet has proclaimed?
Christian Science
With a name like "Christian Science," our first thought would be that it looks to science as proving what the Bible claims. This, however, is not the case. In fact, Christian Science strives to disprove the Bible and Christianity.
Christian Science teaches that:
God is an impersonal principle, or Divine Mind, and the world is only an illusion.
What the Bible says:
God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1). It is as real as it gets. If it is an illusion, then all of existence is an illusion. What would it prove for man to be lied to by God? Even if God was an impersonal principle, what would it serve to make the entire world only an illusion?
The concept itself makes no sense, not to mention that it contradicts God's Word.
The Trinity does not exist, God cannot indwell a person, and Jesus was merely a person who possessed a "divine mind."
What the Bible says:
As the Bible clearly tells us about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, this is explained a bit more below on this page.
As for God not indwelling a person, 2 Corinthians 6:16 and Colossians 1:27 disagrees. And where Jesus is concerned? The entire New Testament disagrees.
You see, if the world is merely an illusion as previously stated, then how can you state any of this with any real knowledge? If the world is an illusion, then how do you know that Jesus was merely a person?
There is no such thing as a devil, and sin does not exist. Because we are of a divine mind, and the divine mind is good, there is no such thing as sin.
What the Bible says:
Lucifer was a created being (Ezekiel 28:13-19; Isaiah 14:12-15), so most assuredly, he exists. In fact, the Bible relates that he may even have been the highest angle in the angelic realm. However, his own pride and ego caused him and 1/3 of the angelic host to be cast out of Heaven.
From that point on, he has been doing everything possible to come between God and His most special creation: man. However, sin most definitely exists, for Romans 3:23 tells us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
And again, if the world is merely an illusion, then how do you know that you are of a divine mind? You need a connection to God for any semblance of rational thought, and rational thought would eliminate the "illusion," would it not?
In other words, the idea of something being an illusion eliminates the possibility of it being an illusion in the first place. Why? Because if it really "is" an illusion, then how would you know? It is an illusion, remember?
Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and Christian Science. Three groups claiming to be Christian, yet none of them actually teaching the message of Christ. None of them believe in God's Holy Word, the Bible - given to us by Jesus' disciples, those directly in His presence and witness to His teachings - yet they claim to be Christian and use their own theology and texts vs. solely the Bible.
Can you see why there is still so much confusion for those seeking what it really means to follow Jesus? Why does a group claim to be Christian yet not believe nor teach the message of Christ?
The Bible names these groups' teachings and proclamations as being "false prophets," intentionally leading God's children away from Him. The sad part of this is that those who are unfamiliar with God's Word and the message of Jesus Christ will be easily duped by these cults (and yes, they "are" cults).
Theological debates can get extremely intensive, and in the end, they rarely accomplish anything. Many take the message of "attack on their faith" and use that to intensify their beliefs. Jesus taught that when man is scoffed or mocked for His sake, we should rejoice.
The problem, though, is that these cults are blinded to begin with, so they will use that to reinforce their own misguided beliefs. To them, it is you, not them, who is misguided.
Therefore, rather than go point-by-point with each belief, a simpler way is to examine the texts themselves that each of these belief systems follow, as well as how they came to be. If something proves to be wrought with holes, then naturally it cannot be of God, can it? And if something proves to have merit, then it can be examined further.
Make sense?
So where did the Bible come from and what is it all about? If you are an avid reader, then look no further than the Bible. It contains every story of every situation you can imagine. Love, happiness, anger, murder, deceit, science, exploration, overcoming addiction, and any other human condition you can think of.
Let's recant a bit about the Bible and go a bit deeper this time.
The term "Bible" is from the Latin word "biblia" and the Greek word "biblios," which means "book." So, basically any book can be a "bible" but generally "The Bible" is associated with God's Word.
The Bible is divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament (39 books written from approximately 1400 B.C. to 400 B.C.) and the New Testament (27 books written from approximately 50 A.D. to 90 A.D.) were written in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. It has been translated to more than 1,200 languages and has been examined repeatedly throughout the ages, being considered the most reliable document of any known to exist.
Note: As mentioned earlier, a common ploy used by many cults is to illustrate how the Bible is "not" accurate, stating that hundreds of thousands of errors exist in translation from the ancient Scriptures to present English (or other modern languages).
What they fail to tell you is what they mean by "error."
If they are speaking of doctrinal error, they are incorrect as there are no doctrinal errors between the original Scripture and its translation to modern languages. The errors they refer to are clearly explained here, and as we see, this has nothing to do with doctrine. And while most of them already know this, they will not tell you that, because they want to cast doubt on your beliefs and make you question God's Word.
Clearly, they are intentionally leading you into a false belief by casting down on the reliability of the Bible.
Because of the Bible's reliability, this is why it has always been the target of criticism, ridicule, and claims of error (even though the above shows this to be unfounded). In the end, we see that those who go against God's Word cannot remove His message; therefore, they changed it to fit their own brand of theology.
We will explore the Bible more thoroughly in the next section (currently under construction), but let's continue our look at Christianity and see more about what it really is.
The message of Jesus as we read in the Bible is a very different message than what Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons or Christian Science portray. The Bible tells us very simple what His message is: There is only one way to God, and HE is that way.
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6
Jesus said this so that there would be no misunderstanding. There is only one way to the Father, and He is that one way. Not some organization, not aliens, not Buddha, not Muhammad, not a false god, and not an angel. Nothing except for Jesus Himself will allow one to find God.
Many claim that they and only they know who Jesus is, but the book of John tells the world who Jesus is, not just a select few.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. - John 1:1-4
In John chapter 1, verses 1 - 4, the apostle John tells us that the Word (Jesus) is not only with God, but was God. This gives us an indication as to who God is and shows us the first two of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Verses 10 through 13 goes further and tells us that even though Jesus is the Creator, the world still rejected Him.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. But as many as received him, to them he gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name; which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1:10-13
This is story of the New Testament, that God gave His only Son to redeem mankind, yet the world did not recognize Him. The Old Testament prophets predicted the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Messiah, and the New Testament records that all of these predictions have been fulfilled in the life of Jesus of Nazareth (with the exception of those yet to come as described in the Book of Revelations).
And ever since that time, many in the world have tried to change His message to fit their own beliefs. They create a variety of stories about books being left out of the Bible because it conflicts with the "established organization," how Christianity is steeped in paganism, how it is corrupt and false, etc.
Man is still man, so yes, there are individuals and even entire groups that are corrupt and false, misusing the name of Jesus for their own profit and influence. These groups and individuals will receive their punishment from a just and righteous God as the Bible proclaims, but they cannot remove God's message from the world. They attempt to change God's Word for their own gain, but they remove themselves from following His truth.
As sad as this is, they also intentionally lead others away from the real Jesus and His message, condemning them to eternal separation from Him. But this DOESN'T have to be!
The Bible is right here and right now, and all you have to do is pick it up, ask God to open your heart to His Word, and just start reading. There's nothing "mystical" about it, nor do you have to have an organization's literature or guidance to understand it. It is God's message to YOU, and He WANTS you to hear it.
The Bible is your "road map" to Jesus, and it is all you need for your salvation in accepting Him as your personal Savior. Because of our busy and hectic lives, though, sometimes we find that we just do not have the time we wish we had to sit down in silence and read our God's message as we would like to.
To that end, I have listed some of my favorite resources below to assist with that. They should never replace your Bible, of course, and most certainly, they are not needed in the slightest way. They can, however, help you learn more about a specific topic and help you find where things are at in your Bible. They are also excellent resources for those "unsure" about what it is they believe, and want to know the "why's" behind things.
The Case for Christ - A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus, by Lee Strobel. Educated at Yale Law School, Lee was an award-winning journalist with the Chicago Tribute and a spiritual skeptic until 1981. See where his investigation took him and how he learned without a doubt that Jesus' message as stated in the Bible is real.

The School of Biblical Evangelism, by Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort. From Way of the Master, this 768 page book is literally a training course for learning how to share your faith simply, effectively, and Biblically - the same way that Jesus did.
The Interactive Bible - A very interesting website that explains what Christianity is, well as what it's not. Lots of discussions about false beliefs.
Christian Apologetics and Resource Ministry (CARM) - Another favorite website of mine that discusses in-depth what Christianity is about, as well as false beliefs. There are also online courses for learning more about Jesus in a step-by-step, lesson-filled curriculum.
The Trinity is a "canon" (concept) that teaches us about God. We read about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but naturally this takes a person by surprise. After all, there is only one God, so how can we be reading about God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?
This confusion is understandable if you only take bits and pieces of the Bible to create a message, but that is not what the Bible is about. Many groups will take one sentence or a few paragraphs and turn it into something completely different than what the real message says, and that is why there are so many cults out there misleading people (Jehovah's Witnesses practice this "out of context" witnessing quite regularly).
Let me put it this way: you will not learn how to fix your car's engine by reading the chapter on flat tires, will you? Of course not. So how can you learn about God in just a few sentences or paragraphs? You cannot. It requires reading the complete "manual," and the Bible is life's instruction manual.
Where the concept of the Trinity is concerned, let's look at a few verses and compare how the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are referred to in the same way.
Father
Son
Holy Spirit
Called God
Philippians 1:2, John 1:1 and 1:14, Col. 2:9
Acts 5:3-4
Creator
Isaiah 64:8, John 1:3, Col. 1:15-17
Job 26:13 and 33:4
Resurrects
1 Thessalonians 1:10, John 2:19 and 10:17
Romans 8:11
Indwells
2 Corinthians 6:16, Colossians 1:27
John 14:17
All Knowing
1 John 3:20, John 16:30 and 21:17
1 Corinthians 2:10-11
Eternal
Psalm 90:2, Micah 5:1-2
Romans 8:11, Hebrews 9:14
Speaks
Matthew 3:17, Luke 9:25, Luke 5:20, Luke 7:48
Acts 8:29, 11:12, and 13:2
The above is only a fraction of verses where the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are spoken of with the same authority. For those that do not believe in this:
How do you explain that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit can be called "God" when there is only one God? There is only one God, but the above verses tell us that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are also God. They are not three separate gods (a belief taught by Mormonism), and there is not one god greater than another (a belief taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses). Instead, there is one and only one God, with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit being God.
How do you explain that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are called the Creator?
How do you explain how the Father, Son and Holy Spirit can resurrect life, indwells us, and are all-knowing?
How do you explain that that Father, Son and Holy Spirit are eternal and speak to us, even searching our hearts?
How are these things explained if the Trinity does not exist? It is not like these verses do not exist, because clearly they do (and the above are only a few examples, too).
I have heard a variety of non-Christian explanations over the years trying to skirt around the above, with not a single one making even the slightest bit of sense. Why? Because they are trying to use their own biased translations vs. God's Word to make their point, and it is impossible. They take a variety of Scripture out of context and contort it to fit their own heretical theology vs. simply reading what God has told us.
So again, how are these things explained if the Trinity does not exist? The most logical answer is simply accepting what God is telling us and to believe in His Word. And His message clearly teaches us that God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
As you can now see, being Christian isn't just about "calling" yourself Christian, nor is it just about believing that Jesus existed. The Romans believed He existed, too, because they were looking right at Him. Did that make them Christian? Of course not. They still spat on Him, beat Him, mocked Him... and then executed Him.
And "saying" that you are Christian does not make it so, either. A Jehovah's Witness and a Mormon will claim to be Christian, yet they are not. Why? Because they do not teach the message of Christ. They teach their own heretical message that is night-and-day to God's Word, and they cloud it with Christian terminology to make it "sound" Christian to those that do not know better.
They refuse to accept God's Scripture, Scripture that has been proven to be as accurately translated as any known in existence. But that has always been the story, hasn't it? The world could not stifle His message, so they changed it. They changed it to fit their own way of thinking, and in doing so, have lead and will lead so many into an eternal separation from a God who desperately wants them to see His truth.
There will come a time when all of these false beliefs will be judged, and God will remove evil permanently from His world. But the Bible is right here, right now, and you can learn so much about God right this minute if you only ask Him. There is no reason to be caught up in these false beliefs and extremist organizations that lead you away from Him.
God loves you. YOU. And He wants you to come home to Him.
If you want to know what the Bible really says so that you are armed against all of these false beliefs, then simply pick up your Bible, pray to God right now to understand what He is telling you, and then just start reading. Yes, it really is that simple.
If you really want to know God's message and His love, then I urge you to pick up your Bible and ask God to help you read and understand it. Based on the Bible's claim that all who seek Him will find Him, you will understand God's message. That is His promise to you.
