While most of our members train in their homes or with private training partners, some of them have taken the extra step in starting a study group in order to reach out to those around them for training partners. These training groups are designated as AWCA Continued Learning Extension Schools.

AWCA Continued Learning Extension School (CLES) Program

For those interested in training with fellow DLP practitioners in your area, the AWCA has instituted a Study Group Leader program. Called the AWCA Continued Learning Extension School (CLES) program, local DLP practitioners have formed study groups for inviting others to train with.

Our current CLES programs are available at AWCA - Monaca/Butler, Pennsylvania, AWCA - El Paso, Texas, and AWCA - Plymouth, UK. If you live in these areas, definitely get in touch with the Study Group Leaders to get more involved in your own Wing Chun training.

As more schools come online, you will see them listed here, as well as in our Links and Site Map sections.

Other Distance Programs vs. The AWCA DLP

Distance learning is accepted world-wide as a viable means for gaining knowledge about any topic, regardless of what that topic is. And the martial arts are certainly no exception.

There "are" some Wing Chun-related distance programs out there, and I have a great deal of respect for anyone who takes the time of putting a program together in order to help those interested in realizing their dreams of training this phenomenal martial art. It is no small feat to create the variety of media necessary for training.

However, the problem I have seen with what they offer and "how" they offer it is:

No They do not incorporate proven distance learning principles or guidelines

No They do not understand distance learning vs. a classroom environment

No They do not educate themselves in providing approved learning resources, and

No They do not understand the resources available to today's learner

For example, let's look at what you will find with most Wing Chun distance programs available today.

All provide a stack of VHS tapes or DVD's, plus a few training manuals. At first glance, this might sound great because you have a ton of information right there at your fingertips. The problem with that, however, is that you are expected to wade through this mound of information on your own by following a sometimes "cryptic" and confusing manual.

Along the way, you "hope" you are training properly, too, which is an issue all to itself.

In a few months - maybe even a year or so - they have to physically travel to the school itself and demonstrate what they have learned. This means incuring more costs for travel, hotel, the training fee itself, food, and everything else that goes into a journey of this type.

Is this true distance learning? Not at all. There is more to distance learning than simply learning at home, and that is the problem with most programs: They do not understand how to deliver proven-effective DLP methods that can be substantiated and that are shown to be actually worthwhile to the user.

How Does The AWCA DLP Work?

The AWCA Distance Learning Program encompasses the same training curriculum that we use in our gym. A student would not learn the entire Siu-Nim-Tau form and all drills in one sitting because they could not take it all in. So if that is not the curriculum in the gym, why create tapes or DVD's with that structure?

We teach in core blocks of instruction both personally in the gym and in our DLP. These blocks of instruction are derived from lessons learned in the eBook Training Series, which is the literal core of the program itself. It is learned at your own pace and with the time you have available for training.

This has shown to be extremely effective regardless of "how" you like to learn. Some prefer reading and studying, some prefer video instruction, and some prefer seeing photos. Everyone has their own preferred way of learning, and the eBook Training Series encompasses all three learning formats completely.

To reinforce this training and to "close the gap" of what is not included in the eBooks, our monthly DVD's take it further and go into one-on-one drills, solo training, working these actions on the wooden dummy, and also explaining the concepts for how things really work.

In a nutshell:

The core training begins with Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau. This workbook includes the foundation of what you will be training in.

Each month you will receive a DVD to supplement your workbook studies. The DVD consists of Forms Training, Drills and applications of the relevant form area, and the Concepts and Theories that makes these elements work cohesively.

Each DVD consists of two to three movements, the drills "for" those movements, and the concepts/ theories "discussing" the movements.

Sifu Phil Bradley introduces the movements with a brief discussion, followed by the form element and solo drills to work them.

The solo drills are then applied with a partner for learning how to train the applications.

The DVD ends with a recap of the lessons learned and a bit more about the concepts "behind" the movements in order to reinforce the training you just learned.

Simply train what you see throughout the month and at your own pace, giving you ample time to create a realistic skill set in thse movements.

A brand new DVD arrives the next month with the next two to three lessons, and this is repeated for the entire duration of your enrollment.

In a very short time, you have learned Wing Chun in a step-by-step manner, and using the same curriculum that is learned at the AWCA.

NOW ONLINE! 04/07/2010 - Our newest feature is now online and running. We have introduced a new webcam class broadcast feature that lets you "tune in" to each class as it happens.

Once you enroll, you will be sent detailed instructions for creating your account, and this feature is FREE for all of our members.

Sounds easy, huh? Well that is because it is! When you have the right tools to work with, any endeavor is that much easier because it is more effective. However, do not think that you will not work, because you will. Attaining a skill set for any physical activity takes time, dedication, practice, and perseverance, so most assuredly you will work.

This is not the kind of program where you can watch a few videos here and there and be rewarded with rank. Instead, this is a program for those serious wanting to learn real Wing Chun Kuen for self-defense, as well as those that want to take it further and start their own AWCA affiliate branches.

IVTKFF-Approved

The AWCA Distance Learning Program curriculum has been reviewed and approved by Dai-Sifu Don Grose, President of the International Ving Tsun Kung Fu Federation (IVTKFF) and Headman of the Tucson Ving Tsun Academy. Being an Instructor Level 6 (Senior Instructor and Master of the Wing Chun system), Dai-Sifu Don is known internationally for his Wing Chun skills, especially Chi-sau and real-world self-defense applications.

Additionally, our program has been reviewed by certified distance learning educators and found to be within acceptable DLP guidelines and principles. Their feedback and guidance has been instrumental for continuously improving and delivering the program for maintaining compliance to proven distance training formats.

Our program is widely accepted by the Wing Chun/ Ving Tsun/ Wing Tsun communities!

AWCA Distance Learning Program

What This Program Is And Is Not

In case you are wondering, let me make it perfectly clear what this program is and is not. The AWCA Distance Learning Program is NOT an informational package. You will not find the entire form or complete system on one DVD. Those kinds of programs do nothing but mass-market the system to the public in order to demonstrate what Wing Chun is about, and they do nothing for actually learning from.

It is also not a program where requests to learn only specific areas are honored. For example, some have asked to learn only the Biu-Tze, only the wooden dummy, etc. We do not believe in this type of training because it leaves out the core of the curriculum itself. Those who venture into learning specific areas without being ready are proven to be ineffective practitioners and are simply cheating themselves (as well as feeding their own ego).

Instead, this is a full-featured training program that takes you step-by-step through actually learning Wing Chun Kuen. And if you put in the time and effort, you will learn. If you want to skip steps in the curriculum, you should seek another program because we do not short-change our members by giving them a false sense of security.

What Do Our Members Think?

Our student base is quite pleased with our curriculum and how it is approached. Many come from other schools, while others are brand new to the art. Take a look at what some of them are saying about the program.

Feedback and Testing

One of the more common questions you might be thinking is "How do I get feedback," or "How is testing done?" That would sure be questions "I" would have.

Because of today's affordable video technology, creating your own videos is one of the easiest things you can do. And as luck would have it, it is also an excellent feedback tool that I use in my own gym. Taking that route even further, I have applied it to a very simple but effective feedback and testing process.

Using a special video service (information provided upon enrollment), you can submit your videos directly to this service for my review. Once reviewed, I can then immediately send video feedback based on your current skills and offer assistance for improving your training.

Pretty simple, huh?

And because we use this same technology for broadcasting our classes here at the AWCA gym, you get direct training advice in real time!

A Note To Experienced Practitioners

A program such as this "is" the solution to what many practitioners around the world have hoped for. Naturally, however, there are many who already possess a certain skill level, and they have questions regarding how the training would progress for them since they already have a particular skill set.

Every school has their own unique way of training and teaching, so what I pass on is how it was taught to me. In that light, however, I also introduce extended concepts from a variety of colleagues and masters along my journey.

Regardless of where or how anyone has learned previously, all AWCA practitioners must be versed in this curriculum and step-by-step training method. Therefore, even if you have completed the Wing Chun system in its entirety at another school, I must still ensure that you are versed in our curriculum.

To that end, videos of your current skill set must be submitted for review in order to evaluate where in our ranking system you would placed, as well as what needs to be worked on in order to become versed in the AWCA Wing Chun training methods.

If you have learned all of the empty-hand curriculums, the wooden dummy, and the weapons, you would submit videos of your training for review. It is not to tell you what is "right" or what is "wrong;" instead, it is solely to inspect what you know, how well you know it, and what needs to happen in order to get you into the correct curriculum for our training.

Not all Wing Chun schools have such a structured curriculum, so even after years of consistent training, a high level instructor might find him or herself in a lower postion with our program. It is not because we are "better" than anyone; rather, it is because we have a step-by-step curriculum with specific points at each level and a set way of passing on that program. Depending on how close your previous training is to what we do and how we do it, that will determine where in our program you would fall into.

Also, this ensures that all practitioners representing the AWCA actually possess the skills they claim to possess, as well as ensuring that the AWCA curriculum is being passed on correctly and completely.

What's Included?

I know you are itching to find out what is included in the program, so let's take a look!

Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau

Volume 1 Siu-Nim-Tau

Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau of the AWCA's eBook Training Series lies at the core of your training. This extensive training workbook includes:

Check Over 70 MB of narrated full and slow-motion training videos
Check 180+ front and side-facing photos of the complete Siu-Nim-Tau form
Check 3-step drills and applications with clear text descriptions and photos
Check In-depth concepts and theories

And as you progress through your studies to pass your testing phases, you are sent the next eBook in the series... absolutely FREE!

Monthly DVD's Delivered Right To Your Door
Get ready to take your training even further with monthly DVD's sent right to your door. Filmed on-site at the AWCA with Sifu Phil Bradley and his students (with periodic "special guests"), you will be training alongside your Wing Chun brothers and sisters as we explore this fascinating martial art together.

Note: Ensure that your DVD player of choice can view the DVD+R format. This is the only format that we currently make our DVD's available in.

Your first training package includes the following two DVD's to get you going in the right direction.

"Welcome to the Arizona Wing Chun Association" - A 10-minute DVD explaining what the AWCA is, what we are about, how your DLP program works, and what you can expect during your training.

Many forms of instruction push you right into training without any background or explanation of "who" is doing the training or where "their" training comes from. In my view, however, that is backwards.

If you were personally training at a school, you would want to know "something" about the school, wouldn't you? In the same manner, this introductory DVD discusses the AWCA and my history so that you know who we are and what we do.

It also discusses the program in more detail, how it was created, the history of how it was developed, and what you can expect from it.

"Lesson 1: Introduction to the Siu-Nim-Tau" - A 20-minute DVD that introduces the first lessons of section 1 from the Siu-Nim-Tau. The Siu-Nim-Tau is the fundamental "building block" of all Wing Chun training, taking you through the stance, working the upper body for correct biomechanics, and teaching how to breathe properly in order to remain relaxed.

Lessons on this DVD include:

Bullet

Hoi-ma (Opening the stance)

Bullet

Gow-cha Tan-sau (Crossed Double Palm-Up arm)

Bullet

Gow-cha Gaun-sau (Crossed Double Splitting-Block arm)

Bullet

Kwun-sau (Twisting-arm/ Rotating-arm)

Bullet Yat-chi-chung-kuen (Character "Sun" Thrusting punch, more commonly called the Wing Chun Straightline punch)

Officially-Recognized AWCA Ranking
Your membership in the AWCA Distance Learning Program includes the same rank certificates and patches as presented to personal students of Sifu Phil Bradley. There is no distinction between a student training here and a student training in the DLP. We are all a part of the same family, regardless of where our physical location happens to be.

All testing can be accomplished in person, but the AWCA DLP features a unique testing phase for various levels.

Student Grades 1 - 6 (which encompasses the Siu-Nim-Tau and Chum-Kiu levels) are achievable by either webcam (Skype network) or submitting testing videos on VHS, DVD, or through videos via email.

Student Grades 7, 8, and 9 are achievable in person and/or via webcam, but are not achievable through videos. Your performance must be demonstrated in real time.

Beyond Student Grade 9, feedback for training is always provided but actual testing is only accomplished in person (and the easiest way to do this is at one of our annual Training Camps, with more information on that below). This allows us to ensure that our standards are being met and continued, which in turn assures the public that you are not a fly-by-night practitioner that was given something you did not earn.

For more information on what each rank consists of, click here.

Webcam Feedback and Testing
For instant real-time feedback and testing, then you will want to take advantage of our webcam feedback and testing option. Conducted on a schedule that fits your training times, you will receive direct one-on-one feedback with Sifu Phil Bradley in real-time.

Submitting videos and receiving feedback is a great way to learn with, but another option is via webcam. You get instant feedback right then and can use this for your training sessions immediately vs. having to wait!

Annual AWCA Training Camp
Every year, the AWCA hosts a training camp that is exclusive to our personal and DLP students. As a member of the DLP, you will be invited to attend and get in on some great personal training!

Our locations vary, too, and is not always just here in Arizona. Over the years we have been to California, Nevada, Illinois, North Carolina, and even Melbourne, Australia. We try to reach a different area every year, and as a DLP member, now YOU can be a part of one of the most insightful and fun training camps you will ever experience.

That's Not All!

Bonus 1

Bonus #1: "How To Train Wing Chun"
(Value: $24.95)

How To Train Wing Chun

Originally created for my personal students, I decided to make this special eBook report available to customers of our eBook Training Series, too. And since your enrollment includes Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau, you will also be receiving this special training resource.

Chapters include:

  • "The Five Stages of Learning" - Understanding the five stages of learning and how to take a simple process for applying it to any level of training.
  • "Forms Training" - Forms training is more than just mimicing what you see; instead, there are a variety of elements that can help you get the most from your efforts if you know about them. And with this chapter, you will.
  • "Specialized Training" - Utilizing Chi-sau, Lap-sau, and Chi-gerk during sparring sessions.
  • "Creating Power" - Still having problems generating the kind of jack-hammer hitting power you know you should be? That will be a thing of the past after working through this chapter.
  • "Staying Relaxed" - Wing Chun requires a calm, relaxed, "explosive" nature in order to deliver our fighting methods. Here you will learn how to remain relaxed throughout your rigorous training and sparring sessions.
  • "Reality vs. Classroom" - Many have approached their training from an unrealistic viewpoint, working dangerous and unworkable actions in the gym and "thinking" it will work in real life. In this chapter, I will show you how to keep your training at a realistic level so that you do not fall into the trap of training something in a way that can see you hurt when you really need it.

Bonus 2

Bonus #2: AWCA Members-Only Bulletin Board
(Value: $250.00)

With tips, pointers, and training advice from practitioners all over the world, this growing members-only bulletin board offers a great deal of training advice from beginner to advanced practitioner.

Members-Only Bulletin Board

Bonus 3

Bonus #3: Free Monthly Priority Shipping!
(Value: $96.00)

Your membership includes free monthly shipping of DVD's, which is by United States Postal Service (USPS) Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. With Priority Mail and Delivery Confirmation, plus handling, containers, etc., you would normally expect to pay at least $8.00 per month in shipping alone. Add that up for a full year and that is another $96.00 in shipping costs alone.

But right now, your membership includes FREE SHIPPING for the duration of your enrollment. No matter where you are in the world (provided that PayPal services your country of origin), you will never pay a single penny to have your DVD's shipped to you.

Registration And Fees

Registration and monthly fees are cost-effective in their own right, but even more so when you consider what personal training in a gym would cost.

Gym training can be as low as $75 per month and as high as $120 a month (with some schools charging even more). And that does not take into account what it costs in the time getting there and back, the money spent for gas, or the time away from your family training.

For one month's fees at a gym, this is equivalent to FOUR months of fees with the AWCA Distance Learning Program. Pretty amazing, huh?

And unlike other schools, there are also NO CONTRACTS by enrolling in the AWCA DLP. I do not believe in contracts. You are here because of your dedication and committment to learning Wing Chun, not because you have to be.

NO CONTRACTS!

Registration and fees are pretty simple, and you will find no hidden costs.

Option A

If you do NOT have Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau
$80 enrollment
Option B

If you DO have Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau

  • Immediate access to the Student Grade 1 Study Guide
  • Immediate access to the AWCA Members-Only Training Bulletin Board
  • DVD #1: Welcome to the Arizona Wing Chun Association
  • DVD#2: Lesson 1 - Introduction to the Siu-Nim-Tau

Think about it: You FINALLY have the options available right now to actually learn Wing Chun Kuen, and it is all included in this phenomenal, real-world training package. This program is not something that was just tossed together; instead, it was:

Bullet
Created by a professional technical writer and multimedia developer who has been a certified Wing Chun instructor since 1991.
